WFL unveils latest MILLTURN CNC machining centre

Complete machining of complex workpieces up to 12m in length becomes a reality. In addition to superior performance and torque values of the spindle drives, tremendous feed forces on all axes ensure impressive dynamics and maximum productivity. Perfection down to the smallest detail and a modular machine concept offer the customer a complete package of the highest quality in a new dimension.

Quality and size in a new dimension

Bigger, stronger, faster, with the latest M175 MILLTURN M-series product, WFL is launching a new giant of complete machining. This contains significant innovations, ensures the highest precision and an advantageous versatility for customer requirements. The new turning-boring-milling unit offers a maximum swing diameter of 1,750mm and can accommodate up to 15,000kg heavy workpieces very stable due to the new, large-sized bed guideway for steady rest and tailstock.

The M175 MILLTURN offers a swing diameter of 1,750mm and can accommodate workpieces up to 15,000kg

The turning-boring-milling unit has an X-stroke of 1,620mm and a Y-stroke of 1,100mm and can therefore be used uncompromisingly and universally, e.g. for deep radial machining. Due to the large volume box structure of the turning-boring-milling unit cross slide with a very wide bed guide base and multiple arrangement of ground gliding guideways in the X- and Z-axis, the tool carrier system has a particularly high stability. This massive and powerful construction is combined with proven main and milling spindle systems, whose 113kW and 58kW drives are extremely reliable in their performance.

The HSK-A100 tool interface that is provided as standard, in addition to the optional Capto C8, also guarantees full utilisation of the potential offered by this device and by its turning power. High-performance drives maximise the feed strength and ensure a speed of processing that is unrivalled in a machine of these dimensions. Thanks to the B-axis, the workpiece can be machined at any angle and, if needed, using 5-axis interpolation.

Unlimited possibilities of internal machining

The M175 MILLTURN is ideally suited for both heavy machining and high-precision finishing. From a technological perspective, the list of potential applications is endless: large landing gear legs, crankshafts, turbine and generator shafts, large valve blocks, and shafts and rollers used in heavy industry.

The various types of processing that the machine offers are therefore unlimited. Alongside heavy drilling and deep-drilling operations, the types of processing available for the internal machining of workpieces knows no limits. When it comes to producing special, one-off solutions, WFL says it is the right partner, as its decades of experience in project-related tool building provides the type of machining to suit your requirements.

Tools with lengths up to 900mm and a weight up to 35kg can be stored in the well-proven, forward-accessible tool magazine with up to 200 tool stations. The machine operator can easily equip tools via the rather large window.

Automation of large workpieces

With the M175 MILLTURN an increase in productivity is becoming reality through a large variety of automation solutions. WFL Millturn Technologies and its subsidiary FRAI Robotic Solutions have decades of expertise and offer a variety of automation variations for different requirements to maximise productivity. The comprehensive range of products includes straightforward loading using articulated robots, a wide variety of gripper systems and gantry loaders with peripheral transport and storage systems for workpieces, tools and jaws.

In cases where there is a lack of staff for night and weekend shifts, automation can be used to increase machine utilisation and therefore remedy the problem of staff shortages. Equipped with a MILLTURN of WFL, intelligent tools and integrated sensors, you get the perfect package for complete manufacturing.

“Our customers look to us for solutions that don't exist yet,” stated Günther Mayr, managing director sales & technics at WFL Millturn Technologies. “Some of the requirements include automation of a MILLTURN with heavy workpieces and production of a wide range of gear teeth. WFL is always able to find a solution for these requirements. Many of our customers value our competence and know-how in this application as an argument to buy a MILLTURN.”
