GF Machining Solutions has introduced a new wire EDM machine specifically designed to meet the high demands of customers in the energy and aerospace sectors.
The CUT S 400 Dedicated has been developed in close collaboration with customers and partners, the CUT S 400 Dedicated builds on GF Machining Solutions’ legacy wire EDM technology designed for manufacturing fir-tree disks, first introduced by the company a decade ago. It brings the technology up-to-date through rigorous process optimisation and the integration of the latest technology advances.
GF Machining Solutions UK managing director, Martin Spencer explained: “This innovative and unique machining solution represents a significant technology milestone being reached in the delivery of high precision and unrivalled process efficiencies for turbine manufacturing customers.
He continued: “Machining fir-tree profiles into turbine disks via the traditional broaching method is challenging owing to tool procurement and their cost, space requirements and the shortage of skilled workers. Wire-cutting technology provides a proven alternative: tools are replaced by wires, which are always refreshed and renewed, and can be relied upon to produce high-precision profiles.”
Unlike GF Machining Solutions’ other wire EDM machines in its portfolio, where the emphasis is on precision, the main focus with the CUT S 400 Dedicated is on increasing productivity through improved reliability, enhanced process security and ease of maintenance. Together, these features combine to deliver an efficient and effective production machine.
The CUT S 400 Dedicated incorporates advanced technologies such as tilting and rotating axes for flexibility and the delivery of precise and stable machining operations for both light and heavy part processing.
The integration of the Intelligent Speed Power Generator (ISPG), 3D-printed rigid and compact heads for more effective flushing and Spark Track technology make this machine a revolutionary wire-cutting EDM machine.
eTracking software ensures comprehensive monitoring of the machine’s status, job progress and processing traceability in real time. This functionality is NADCAP compliant and enables prompt responses to any deviations, ensuring consistent quality and performance.
Additionally, the Spark Track function optimises spark energy, again in real-time, to prevent wire breaks and maximise cutting speed. The machine’s design facilitates easy access for cleaning and maintenance operations, reducing downtime and costs.
The CUT S 400 Dedicated is fully designed for lights-out operations and is equipped with a large wire spool (up to 45kg capacity) and six high-efficiency filters. The machine can be easily integrated with a range of automation systems to increase its operational capabilities.
The use of SMART wire spools with RFID (radio frequency identification) technology improves traceability and efficiency in the production process. These automation options, combined with a 28% reduction in daily energy consumption (compared to the previous generation of machines) make the CUT S 400 Dedicated an environmentally-friendly machine that delivers high performance, precision and energy efficiency.
