Mazak makes EMAF debut to strengthen presence in Portugal

Yamazaki Mazak is to make its first appearance at May’s EMAF trade show in a further sign of the company’s strengthening commitment to its Portuguese customers.

Mazak’s EMAF debut, which will take place between 31 May – 3 June 2023, will showcase two machines, the CV5-500 5-axis machining centre and the QTE 300 MSY SG turning centre.

Mazak’s direct sales channel in Portugal, based in Porto, has been operating since May 2020 and has quickly grown to include 11 employees working in sales, service, training and application support roles.

Antonio Santos, area sales manager at Mazak Portugal, says its investment in EMAF is a demonstration of the company’s commitment to its Portuguese customers.

“With more than 360 machines now installed in Portugal, Mazak is a rapidly growing presence in the machine tool market. We have a very diverse industrial base in Portugal, and this is reflected in the choice of machines on our stand. The CV5-500 is likely to appeal to both entry-level and established 5-axis machining operators, while the QTE-300 MSY SG is a highly versatile turning centre that can operate in multiple different sectors and applications.”

The CV5-500 was designed and is manufactured at Mazak’s manufacturing facility in the UK specifically for European machine tool users. The 5-axis simultaneous machining centre is designed to deliver high-speed and high-accuracy machining with a high rigidity 12,000 rpm spindle, 30 tool magazine and MAZATROL SmoothX CNC for ultra-fast programming.

The machine being exhibited at EMAF is also equipped with an MA robot, a user-friendly, easily programmable robot that frees machine operators from low value repetitive machine loading and unloading work, whilst enhancing productivity by enabling lights-out and unmanned running.

The CV5-500 will be joined by the QTE-300 MSY SG, a high-speed, high-accuracy 2-axis turning centre that is equipped with a second spindle, milling spindle and Y-axis. The machine is powered by Mazak’s latest CNC, MAZATROL SmoothEz, which makes programming machines easier and faster.

Alan Mucklow, managing director UK, Eire and National Distributors at Yamazaki Mazak, commented: “We have a growing presence in the Portuguese market with a large installed base of machines and there is an increasing expectation from our customers that we will be in attendance at major trade shows such as EMAF. Our Portuguese team, together with our representative Normil, stands ready to guide our customers and stand visitors through the Mazak range of machines and highlight the vitally important role that service, support and training can play in helping Mazak customers get the best from their machines.”
