GKN joins GE in sustainable CFM engine programme

GKN Aerospace has announced at Farnborough Airshow that it has entered a joint technology development programme with GE Aviation to collaborate in the development and maturation of open fan architecture for the CFM RISE technology demonstration programme.

RISE was launched by CFM (GE Aviation and Safran) in 2021.

GKN will partner in the demonstrator programme through the injection of its latest technologies, component design, and production of hardware adapted to support the programme targets, as well as the validation plan for the programme.

The GKN Aerospace team is currently working with GE Aviation to define the detailed schedules.

GKN says its involvement in this programme reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainability.

Alexander Andersson, GKN Aerospace SVP programmes, said: “GE Aviation and GKN Aerospace have had a relationship for more than 40 years. Over the years we have grown our responsibility on GE engines and today we are in long-term partnerships with design authority in several programmes.

“The next step in this partnerships is to ensure that we continue to invest in the right technologies and tailor our solutions to create the best value for our customer. Being able to enter this collaboration for the RISE programme enables us to do so, and I am proud to be part of the journey to a sustainable future of flight.”
