DMG Mori invited to participate in AMRC composite machining forum

As a Tier 1 member of the AMRC, DMG Mori has been involved in several projects with the organisation including ultrasonic machining with the DMG Mori Ultrasonic 10 for carbon fibre machining with PCD tooling, and additive and subtractive technology using the DMG Mori Lasertec 65 3D which, as well as laser deposition welding and 5-axis machining, is also fitted with the Ultrasonic technology pack.

Research into these new disruptive technologies is led by partners within industry with the aim of achieving a step change in the way in which products are made.

Austin Cook will be speaking on behalf of BAE Systems along with specialists from the AMRC Composites Group and speakers from the tooling, metrology and engineering software sectors.

DMG Mori will be examining the commercial and technical challenges faced when implementing composite machining.

To support the collaborative research programmes it is involved in, DMG Mori has an engineer permanently on site in Sheffield and the AMRC also has a good relationship with engineers at Deckel Maho Pfronten where researchers can initiate technical meetings and obtain additional training.

The machinery it has supplied will form an important part of Factory 2050, the home of the AMRC’s Integrated Manufacturing Group, which is to incorporate the next generation man-machine interfaces in a reconfigurable, data driven manufacturing environment.
